Wingate University, Wingate NC

Cuddy Arena

Attention All UBA Youth Leaders and Pastors

Our Youth Council met Tuesday evening 2-19-19 and set in motion the final plans for our upcoming “Feeding the Children” food-packaging event to be held on April 10 in Cuddy Arena at Wingate University.  The council set a call in date for all leaders to call in to the UBA at 704.283.8383 starting at 9:00 am on Friday March 15 to request spots for one of the two hours on that evening.  We need students and adults to package from 6 pm to 7 pm and another group from 7 pm to 8 pm on April 10.  Frank Casstevens (chair) will be sending out more information about logistics like parking, arrival times serving and other needs very soon.  Please mark your calendar to call in on that day as we hope to fill all 300 spots quickly for this event.

Our goal is to package 50,000 meals that will stay here in Union County to feed the hungry. Wingate University and many of our churches have either pledged or already sent in funds to help cover the cost of this historical event.  One meal cost .27 cents to package and with cost of all materials and shipping and staff to facilitate, the total cost is $16,300.  We know this is a large amount but the University has pledged a large pledge and with pledges that have been committed and contributions received, we are right at the halfway mark now.  Would your church prayerfully consider sending students or adults for one hour on this Wednesday evening, and to give financially to help us reach this amount?  If you cannot send anyone to work, please consider helping us with a special offering, maybe a Sunday School class or group in the church would donate. This is a great way to teach our families to give up one meal of eating out and donate to this cause. A fast food meal today for three people will cost approx. $20 or more and a meal in a restaurant can run $50 for three.  This amount would provide 50 to 100 meals from just one family. All gifts should be sent to the UBA or dropped off to them during their office hours.  Please mark on the check that it is for “Feeding the Children” The UBA will write one check to cover the cost to them   If you already have money collected for this, please continue sending it in as soon as possible. We are praying that we can reach 50,000 meals this year.

Youth leaders and Pastors we need your help in promoting this in your congregation.  Thank you for reading this and, we pray that each of us will take this home mission project and work together to show His love here in Union County.

Because of the Need to Love Others,

Frank Casstevens - Chair UBA Youth Council

Camp Caraway is a summer camp for boys, sponsored by North Carolina Baptists on Mission, and is accredited by the American Camp Association. All boys are welcome and do not have to be active in a particular church to attend. We also have a Christian expedition program called Christian High Adventure, featuring male-only and coed outdoor adventure and whitewater trips. Our camp is located in the beautiful Uwharrie Mountains, seven miles west of Asheboro, North Carolina. Since 1963 more than 65,000 boys have been challenged toward strengthening their Christian walk at Caraway. We'd love to have your son or group of boys join us!
Camp Caraway bases its program on the Christian idea that each boy is a person of worth, created in the image of God. Each boy is important and each has something unique and significant to contribute to the camp. This idea is applied to every activity and to every aspect of the camp program. The key to North Carolina's furture lies with the campers of today. Our goal is to instill within each camper the desire to be all God created him to be. We hope to see you at Camp Caraway this summer!
