Something You Can Count On

Many people are struggling today with having something they can count on.  It seems like something or someone is always letting them down.

An example of things that let you down could be products you may have purchased like a cell phone or computer or some other nice product that lasted about a year or so and then it either breaks or is obsolete or you have to continually pay to “update” it.

Someone who let you down could be the very people you thought you could count on who instead    betrayed you, or talked about you behind your back, or when you needed them most, they were nowhere to be found. People in leadership positions like our elected officials and others promise great things, but often fail to come through – we just can’t count on them.  And as today’s news tells us, even those like law enforcement officials and even some in the clergy are not exempt from letting us down.  What, or better yet, who can you count on?

For those who are struggling today, let me offer you some encouragement. There is something you can always count on, something that will not change or ever let you down. That something you can count on is God’s Word. Isaiah 40:8 says, The grass withers, the flower fades, But the WORD OF OUR GOD stands forever. (NASB emphasis mine.)  In Matthew 5:18 Jesus said, "For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is    accomplished. (NASB)  Notice also the promise from Matthew 24:35  "Heaven and earth will pass away, but MY WORDS will not pass away. (NASB)  God’s Word does not change. This means that whatever God has said in and through His Word is true, trustworthy, unchanging, and established forever. So let me encourage you when something you were counting on has let you down, turn to the one thing you can always count on, God’s precious Holy Word and let it minister to you and strengthen you through whatever you are facing. It has the answers you need and offers the encouragement to you to remember that what you are going through is only temporary.  Read near the end of the Book (Rev. 21:1-7) to see what God has in store for those who know and love Him.  It will help you to see that things may be a struggle now, but better days are on the horizon – the best is yet to come!

Hebrews 13:8 tells you there is Someone you can count on who will never let you down.  That someone is,  JESUS CHRIST, the same yesterday and today and forever. (NASB)  When Jesus promised never to leave nor forsake you, you can count on Him to be there.  Read the Word and see all Jesus promised to be and to do for you.  So, when someone you thought you could count on lets you down, let me encourage you to rest in the comfort of knowing that there is One who will never let you down – Jesus Christ, the rock of our salvation, a strong tower and shield, a friend who sticks closer than a brother, One who loves you more than words can ever tell, the One who gave His life in exchange for yours, and the One on whom you can always     depend. You’ve got a friend in Jesus and you can count on Him!

Next time you need something or someone you can count on, count on the following:

God’s Written Word – read it and trust it daily.

God’s Living Word – love Him and follow Him daily.

You can always count on God – HIS WRITTEN WORD AND THE LIVING WORD!
